Ammo Room (Texturing)

Alright done! I decided since we had an extra week to work on this that I would take my sweet time. I suppose the crowning achievement is the barrel. For the most part I used textures I found around the internet, but I made a wood texture which I used on the barrel, crate, door, and rafters (I was proud of it hah). It is the first texture I have made really, but I think it turned out decent. I also modeled rings for the barrels, which gives them a lot more character in my opinion.

There is something phenomenal about seeing your drawings on the wall of a room that only exists virtually.

And here are a few with some experimental lighting.

I usually try to add some useful and or interesting information to my posts, but I think I'm just going to let the pictures speak this time.

Logo

At the mention of a logo project, my first thoughts were "Beyond Condor". You may be wondering why these words are relevant to this project, so I will explain. Years ago my best friend, Jeff, and I were hanging out. Just joking around we decided to come up with the name for our future game development team, as unlikely as that may have been. The first name we liked was "Rampage Studios", which is pretty cool, but we didn't feel that it was original enough for the two of us, so we kept thinking and eventually, by divine intervention, Jeff was sent two words, "Beyond" "Condor". Honestly we weren't even sure what exactly a condor was at the time, only that it was some type of bird, but I couldn't help but let out a "HOLY SHIT!", for these two words rang true! I asked him how he came up with it and he just shook his head, for it was just meant to be..

After a little research I learned that the condor is the largest flying land bird in the western hemisphere, with a wingspan of nearly 10 feet and possibly related to the Argentavis magnificens, which was an ancient South African bird with a wingspan of 23 feet. Also some scientists believe that the Thunderbird, a Native American legend, could be based off of the condor. This legend states that the Thunderbird was a winged creature with horns, teeth under it's beak, and could shoot lightning from it's eyes! It was also said to be able to shift into human form by taking off it's beak like a hood and feathers as a cloak.

So after researching this creature and discovering that it was insanely awesome in its own right, I went to work on some concept doodles to get an idea of how I wanted to do the logo.

So I had a lot of ideas, but I was finding it hard to incorporate the text into the logo. This problem was never overcome to the proficiency that I would have wished. I also spent more time thinking about how I wanted it than on actually making it.. I hate to make excuses, but I felt like I had more time, but between my other art project and preparing to obtain my driver's license (which I succeeded at woop woop!).. umm and lazing around.. the due date just crept up on me. I think it came out alright, I did still spend some time on it, but again I failed to inspire awe to the degree I planned.

Here is a perspective view so you can see how it is layered.

I saved it as a .png with alpha channels, but for some reason the blog doesn't want to recognize this, so you will just have to exercise your imagination.

Robot Project

On beginning this project I really didn't have any idea what sort of robot I wanted to make since there is near infinite possibilities, so I sat and doodled in my sketchbook whilst watching Fringe and came across a design I liked. I had many more ideas, but decided to proceed with this one. I sketched up some quick reference for modeling and went to work.

This is the basic version using standard primitives and simple modifiers such as bend, stretch, and taper (I also used spherify on the skirt of the dress, mirror to get the limbs symmetric, and cloth on the transparent piece that drapes off the dress to make it a bit more exciting). Trying to use only these simple modifiers to create the forms I needed was borderline frustrating but I did get a good feel for some of the modifiers, so it was worth it. I had to deviate from the concept a few times because I just couldn't get a part shaped correctly using this method though.

She is composed of mostly curvy forms illustrating her femininity and fairness. The pointy forms surrounding her shoulders contrast the curves, making her a bit more interesting and perhaps a little threatening. Her color scheme consists of golds showing status and whites for goodness and purity. The concept I did for her spouse, the king, was very boxy complimenting his manner of structure and command.

It was my intention to make another version using editable polys, but I fell short on time considering it was much harder than I thought it would be. I messed around with Blender about two years ago and remember it being considerably easier, but I suppose I can't expect to be a master after just being introduced to 3ds. Here are a few concepts for the more detailed editable poly version I had planned to make.
